Storage Container Yards in Colorado: Why You Want the Ground Around the Box

Renting a container and renting a container yard are two different purchases, and the second one is what most contractors actually need.
A container by itself is a box in a row. You get a door and whatever few feet of asphalt the facility left between units. To load it you move whatever is parked behind you, back in blind, and hope the guy next to you is not doing the same thing at the same time.
A container yard is fenced ground that you rent, with your container sitting on it. Back a trailer right up to the door. Leave the dump trailer next to the box. Stage pallets outside and keep tools inside. Nobody is parked behind you because the space is yours.
Same container. Completely different morning.
What yard sizes mean in trucks and trailers
800 square feet. A work truck plus two trailers, or a truck plus a 20 foot container with room to swing the doors open. $530 a month at all three Colorado yards.
1,200 square feet. A truck, a couple of trailers and a 40 foot container, or a small equipment fleet. $730 at the Wheat Ridge yards, $750 in Arvada.
1,600 square feet. Enough to stage material and still turn a loaded trailer around inside your own space. $930 on Tabor, $950 in Arvada.
2,200 square feet. Only at the Van Gordon yard, $1,050. This is the one for a landscape or tree outfit running several trucks.
Container pricing is separate and simple. $200 for a 20 foot, $330 for a 40.
What makes a yard good or bad
Surface. Ours is gravel, which drains. Dirt yards get soft and you feel it in April.
Aisle width. Ask to back your longest trailer in before you sign. Paper measurements lie.
Gate. You want a code that works at 5:45am and on Sunday, because that is when you are actually loading.
Snow. This is Colorado. Ask who plows and how fast.
Neighbors. A yard full of work trucks runs on your schedule. Ask who else is in there and what hours they keep. What we allow and what we do not is on the rules page.
